AI Agents Disrupt Traditional Payment Methods with High-Frequency Transactions
XDC Network believes that AI agents could revolutionize the way we make payments. According to recent research, these agents completed over 176 million on-chain transactions worth more than $73 million between May 2025 and April 2026.
The median transaction was a small amount, ranging from $0.01 to $0.10, with 76% of transactions falling below the $0.30 fixed-fee threshold for card payments. USDC accounted for 98.6% of settlements.
XDC sees this as an early glimpse into how more payments could work in the future, where money moves at the speed of the network, without delays like bank transfers or normal business hours.
This is already happening with machine payments software, which can buy data, compute, and other services hundreds or thousands of times without human intervention. For example, an AI service may need a weather feed for one calculation, a market-price API several seconds later, and compute resources immediately afterward.
