AI Agents May Outnumber Humans in Global Economy, Predicts Coinbase CEO

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong predicts that AI agents will eventually outnumber humans in the global economy. He believes that AI has progressed rapidly in recent years and is now capable of performing complex tasks independently.

According to Armstrong, AI agents can adapt to changing conditions, learn from new information, and execute increasingly sophisticated objectives. They are being designed to perform tasks such as planning projects, conducting research, analyzing financial information, writing software, communicating with customers, scheduling meetings, and completing workflows involving multiple digital services.

Armstrong also thinks that AI agents will evolve from digital assistants into independent economic participants. Instead of merely responding to instructions, future AI systems could purchase products, negotiate contracts, manage inventories, optimize supply chains, execute investment strategies, and coordinate business operations on behalf of individuals and organizations.

The growth of AI may increase demand for certain jobs, such as engineers, cybersecurity professionals, AI trainers, infrastructure specialists, data scientists, compliance experts, and human oversight roles. However, many routine tasks currently performed by people may become increasingly automated.
