AI Crypto Sector Surges 54% in September, Outpacing Broader Market Growth
Grayscale's report highlights the rapid growth of the AI-focused crypto sector, which surged 54% in September, outperforming the broader market's 24% advance. This growth is significant, despite the sector remaining the smallest of six crypto categories, valued at approximately $15 billion. Grayscale identifies several key projects, including NEAR, Bittensor, World, and Venice, which are developing infrastructure for agentic commerce, decentralized AI, digital proof of human identity, and AI chatbots.
The report suggests that public blockchains can complement centralized AI systems by providing infrastructure for machine-to-machine payments, decentralized identity, private computation, and verifiable records. This could create new opportunities for autonomous software agents and support the growth of the agent economy.
Grayscale estimates that the AI sector has room for growth, and the report emphasizes that the market remains relatively early in its development. The firm expects one or more major projects to emerge from the sector over the next five years.
