AI Crypto Wallets Unlock Automated Trading and Machine-to-Machine Commerce
The emergence of AI crypto wallets is changing the way software agents interact with blockchains. Unlike traditional wallets, where users approve each transaction manually, agentic wallets can automate payments and trades within predefined limits.
These programmable wallets rely on delegated authority, where users set rules for what the AI agent can do. This includes maximum daily spending, approved tokens, permitted smart contracts, protocol allowlists, transaction-value caps, and automatic portfolio rebalancing.
The Ethereum ERC-4337 standard allows for account abstraction, making it easier to implement agentic wallets. MetaMask describes these systems as allowing software to prepare or execute blockchain actions while operating inside defined permissions.
AI crypto wallets can execute transactions automatically, checking policy limits and signing transactions before they are executed on the blockchain. This is in contrast to regular wallets, which rely on human-driven transaction approval and have limited spending rules.
