AI-Driven Attacks Force Boltz to Halt Bitcoin Swap Services

Boltz, a non-custodial Bitcoin swap provider, has halted its swap services due to an escalating wave of AI-powered attacks targeting its infrastructure. The company claims that no user funds were at risk during the attacks and that it is working on containing the issue.

The team said there was no single incident that prompted the decision, but rather a steady rate of automated and AI-powered probing over the last few months. Multiple exploit attempts have been contained, but an attacker is reportedly finding and exploiting vulnerabilities faster than Boltz can be aware of and fix them.

According to the company, all swaps are currently unavailable, but its API remains available for handling cooperative refunds. Unilateral refunds systems that operate outside of the company's infrastructure are also possible. Boltz emphasized that its non-custodial platform means users do not lose control of their Bitcoin during the swapping process.

The attacks come amid a larger trend in bitcoin's open-source-licensed services, where well-funded threat groups employ AI to converge threat discovery and development processes. This has created a new challenge for smaller infrastructure providers like Boltz.
