AI-Driven Wallet Hacks: $83M Stolen from 1,196 Coldcard Wallets
Coldcard bitcoin thefts have highlighted a broader change in cybersecurity due to advancements in large language models (LLMs), according to Jameson Lopp, co-founder of Casa. The breach has resulted in over $83 million stolen from 1,196 wallets in about 40 minutes.
The flaw behind the theft is not just a hardware wallet failure but also a change in security software, with AI-powered code analysis making it easier for attackers to uncover vulnerabilities. Lopp stated that 'advancements in large language models are drastically changing the security landscape.'
CoinKite's CEO, Rodolfo Novak, acknowledged his responsibility and said that the incident is 'a sober reality of the new AI paradigm.' He also mentioned that AI-assisted audits can uncover flaws much faster than traditional manual audits.
