AI Fears Spark Bitcoin Optimism in Hut8 Co-Founder

Hut8 Bitcoin Mining founder Marc van der Chijs has expressed concern over the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential to cause systemic shock. In an interview with CoinDesk, he stated that the speed of technological iteration has surpassed human intervention, exposing the financial system and critical infrastructure to unprecedented risk exposures.

Van der Chijs warned that AI could infiltrate and attack the legacy software of banks, which still operate on decades-old architectures harboring unpatched code vulnerabilities. This could trigger widespread chain failures, he said. In contrast, Bitcoin's decentralized network is more resilient against such risks.

The Hut8 co-founder also predicted that AI and robots may take over 90% to 95% of the job share in the existing labor market, severely impacting tax bases worldwide. He proposed taxing machines or AI computing power as a solution but acknowledged regulatory challenges.
