AI Fears Spark Bitcoin Price Debate
Liron Shapira, an AI commentator, recently claimed that Bitcoin prices would fall by 50% or more in the next two years due to potential vulnerabilities exposed by advanced AI systems.
The argument is not that AI will hack Bitcoin overnight, but rather that increasingly capable AI could expose weaknesses in the security assumptions, software, and infrastructure supporting the largest cryptocurrency.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin countered Shapira's view with optimism about cybersecurity, stating that developers and operators can patch vulnerabilities without rewriting Bitcoin's basic rules.
The crypto industry's uneven security record and AI's potential to make the race between attackers and defenders more intense are concerns raised by Shapira. However, Buterin's assessment reflects the view that current AI progress does not automatically translate into defeating cryptography securing Bitcoin.
