AI-Linked Crypto Sector Soars 54%, Grayscale Sees 'Big Winners' Ahead
Grayscale's research suggests that the AI-linked crypto sector is gaining momentum. In September, this sector grew by 54% compared to 24% for the overall market. With a capitalization of around $15 billion, it remains the smallest of the six tracked by Grayscale, but the asset manager believes it has the potential to produce several 'big winners' over the next five years.
The convergence of artificial intelligence and blockchain is attracting attention, and Grayscale's head of research, Zach Pandl, highlights the potential of AI agents, software capable of performing tasks and executing transactions autonomously. Public blockchains could play a key role in the development of this economy, providing open infrastructures for automated payments, identity management, private computing, and data verification.
Several cryptocurrencies benefited from the sector's enthusiasm in September, with NEAR leading the way with an increase of 183%. Venice rose by 70%, while World and Bittensor saw gains of 47% and 37%, respectively. Grayscale supports this sector through its Decentralized AI Fund, which holds NEAR, Bittensor, Render, and Filecoin.
While the sector shows promise, it still faces challenges and risks, including the need to prove itself and demonstrate its ability to generate revenue, secure its networks, and meet real needs. A recent hack of the NEAR Intents platform serves as a reminder of the risks these infrastructures remain exposed to.
