AI Marketplace Bittensor Puts Quality to the Test
Bittensor is an innovative marketplace for machine intelligence where anyone can produce and sell AI outputs. The network is designed to grade work and pay producers based on how well their output meets a set of predefined rules, with payouts flowing through each subnet's token and emission system.
The network is split into subnets, each with its own task, scoring rule, and emission budget. Validators in each subnet run the scoring rule and determine which miners are producing the best work, while the chain routes new TAO tokens to the highest-paid miners. This structure makes the system transparent and auditable.
The key difference between Bittensor and traditional AI development is that it inverts the sourcing question. Instead of owning the supplier, the network buys capability from whoever produces it best, subnet by subnet, and lets a scoring rule decide who that is this week. This approach allows miners to compete on equal terms with well-funded teams.
The token, TAO, serves as a settlement layer for a continuous auction, providing a price signal for each subnet's output. However, the question remains whether incentive design can reliably produce quality at scale, and how the network will handle miners who game the system by producing low-quality work.
