CobraBitcoin, a well-known figure in the Bitcoin community, has sounded the alarm about a new security threat facing the cryptocurrency industry. He warns that increasingly capable artificial intelligence (AI) models could lead to the next major exploit.

The AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic are designed for tasks such as software-engineering and vulnerability discovery. CobraBitcoin points out that much of Bitcoin's critical infrastructure is open-source, making it vulnerable to analysis by these machines at machine speed.

OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra has reached the 'Critical' cybersecurity capability level under its Preparedness Framework. This means it can discover previously unknown security flaws and develop new exploitation techniques without human direction. Astra achieved a perfect 100% score on ExploitBench, surpassing its predecessor, GPT-5.6 Sol.
