AI-Powered Economy Convergence Sparks Tokenization Frenzy
The intersection of artificial intelligence and digital assets is gaining momentum as traditional financial institutions increasingly adopt blockchain technology. BlackRock's recent report, 'The Machine-Native Economy,' explores how AI, stablecoins, and tokenized assets could form a shared financial infrastructure for an economy dominated by autonomous agents.
Coinbase has developed Agentic Wallets and the x402 protocol, allowing agents to spend, receive, and manage digital assets under defined control rules. The platform says x402 has surpassed 50 million transactions and identifies use cases involving payments for APIs, data, and computing resources.
Regulators are also preparing markets for tokenization. Michael S. Selig, chairman of the CFTC, said that markets should prepare for large-scale tokenization, stablecoins, and continuous market operation. The SEC has approved a temporary exemption to facilitate on-chain trading of certain tokenized U.S. equities.
The convergence between AI and digital assets is becoming a concrete area of financial development rather than a purely technological hypothesis. Traditional asset managers such as Franklin Templeton are building products on blockchain infrastructure, while companies like Coinbase and Stripe are developing tools for programmable payments.
