AI Sector Suffers 18.7% Market Capitalization Drop Amidst Crypto Sell-Off
The crypto market experienced a significant sell-off this week, with the AI sector bearing the brunt of it. The sector's market capitalization (mcap) fell 18.7% to reach $24.2 billion, a figure not seen since April 2025.
BTC closed below the 50-week EMA for the first time since 2023, and most AI tokens suffered heavy declines. However, some projects held up better than others, with Bittensor (TAO) experiencing a relatively modest decline of 14.1%.
Only 13% of the top 100 AI tokens managed to stay green this week, with UnifAI Network (UAI), Nillion (NIL), SUPRA (SUPRA), and Tagger (TAG) being the notable exceptions. On the other hand, several projects saw significant losses, including Allora (ALLO), DeAgentAI (AIA), and Sapien (SAPIEN).
The current market conditions have prompted some cautionary advice from experts. To avoid excess leverage, it's recommended to keep it low to avoid getting liquidated on volatility. It's also a good time to reassess holdings and cut weakness while reinforcing strength.
