AI to Replace Crypto Wallets: Vitalik Buterin's Vision for Decentralized Coordination
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin predicts that artificial intelligence will replace traditional crypto wallets and interfaces, while humans remain in control. According to him, AI agents will manage interactions across wallets, protocols, and external services on behalf of users.
Buterin emphasized the importance of blockchain as a coordination layer for AI systems, which must interact without central oversight. He believes that incentive structures enforced by smart contracts are the key to decentralized AI coordination.
The Ethereum team is working on a zero-knowledge (ZK) application programming interface (API), designed to protect user privacy and enable anonymous payments and requests. Buterin also warned about the structural vulnerabilities created by AI in existing governance mechanisms, which could be compromised automatically once AI lowers the barrier to attack.
Buterin suggested that future layer-2 systems should be built around specific application requirements, such as privacy or trading, rather than simply copying the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).
