The Marshall County Sheriff's Office in Alabama is warning residents about a cryptocurrency scam that's making the rounds.

Scammers are calling people, claiming to be deputies or law enforcement officers, and demanding payment for a warrant or missed jury duty.

They're telling victims to pay with cash at a Bitcoin machine to resolve the issue, and threatening fines or arrests if they don't comply.

The sheriff's office emphasizes that this is a scam and urges everyone to never put cash in a Bitcoin machine to resolve these so-called warrants or jury duty summons.

Law enforcement officials note that legitimate calls from them will never involve demanding payment over the phone or asking for personal information.
