Algorithmic Trading's Next Edge: Knowing When to Stop

Share

Crypto markets never sleep, but that doesn't mean there's always an opportunity to trade. In fact, Amir Naser Hojati, a futures trader with 15 years of experience, believes that the best trading algorithms should know when to do nothing.

Hojati argues that while machines can continuously analyze market data and produce predictions, they often lack the human instinct to recognize when conditions have changed. A machine may see a familiar pattern, but it needs a reason to act, whereas an experienced trader can look at a market and think 'not today.'

As AI becomes more integrated into crypto trading, Hojati believes that this distinction will become increasingly important. He notes that while machines can generate endless streams of interpretations, they may not always recognize the limits of their own confidence.

The key to successful algorithmic trading, according to Hojati, is not just about finding opportunities but also recognizing when not to deploy capital. This means treating abstention as part of a strategy's intelligence, rather than a failure to find an opportunity.
