Alkanes Dominates Bitcoin Transactions This Summer
A Bitcoin metaprotocol called Alkanes has taken over most transactions on the network, making up 61.1% of all Bitcoin transactions between June 23 and September 20.
This period saw around 59.9 million transactions, with Alkanes using 40.3% of block space by weight and 94.2% of OP_RETURN bytes.
Alkanes is maintained by SUBFROST, a US-based company that also provides full Chinese documentation and a metrics page for the protocol.
The Alkanes community is mostly from the Asia Pacific region, with most discussion on X coming from Chinese-speaking users who often mention the UniSat wallet.
