Alpenglow Activates on Solana Testnet, Aims for Faster Block Finalization

Alpenglow, a new consensus mechanism for Solana, has begun its activation phase in the network's public testnet. This move marks an important step towards reducing the target block finalization time from approximately 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds.

The transition to Alpenglow was supported by 98.94% of participants when it was approved in September 2025, and now the community is rehearsing the migration process for over four months in a separate cluster.

On September 22, the Anza team announced the start of the activation process on the public testnet of Solana. The new consensus mechanism aims to reduce the target block finalization time from approximately 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds.
