Altcoin ETF Wave Gains Momentum with Staking Yield as Key Differentiator
The altcoin ETF wave is gaining momentum, with Solana and XRP funds live and taking money. BlackRock's staked Ethereum product opened with $100 million in investment. Grayscale filed to launch a US spot ETF tracking Worldcoin's WLD token, which gained 8% on the news.
The defining feature of this generation is staking yield, which fixed the original design flaw in crypto ETFs. This allows investors to earn a return on their investment through staking, rather than just holding the asset itself. Bitcoin, however, cannot copy this as it has no staking mechanism.
Issuers are working outward from the majors into large-cap altcoins and then into thematic tokens. Filings from various companies suggest a steady queue of new products. However, regulatory uncertainty remains a constraint, with the CLARITY Act still pending in the Senate.
