Altcoin Market Cap Breaks Above Two-Year Trendline as Bitcoin Dominance Falters
Altcoins have been stuck in a rut for what feels like an eternity, but it appears that things may be about to change. The combined market cap of every coin outside the top 10 has broken above a trendline it's been trapped under since late 2024.
This breakout isn't just a small move either, with the altcoin market cap up over 10% this week, starting at around $199 billion and closing near $220 billion. This surge is occurring on a support zone that has held for about 1,000 days straight.
Interestingly, crypto analyst AshCrypto mentioned on X that the four-year cycle usually treats 2026 as a bear phase. Despite this, Bitcoin is holding up well, despite the failed Clarity Act vote and the Fed hiking rates.
However, if Bitcoin's dominance continues to decline, it could lead to capital rotating out of Bitcoin and into altcoins. This would be especially timely given the recent breakout of altcoins.
