Altcoin Season Index Hits 56, But Still Below Threshold
The Altcoin Season Index has reached its highest level in months at 56 out of 100, but it's still far from declaring altseason. According to KuCoin, this means that not enough top 100 cryptocurrencies have outperformed Bitcoin over the last 90 days. In contrast, on September 19, the index was at 48, and since then, it has continued to rise.
Today's market is characterized by broad participation with altcoins leading the way, consistent with a rising index. XRP gained 6.59% to $1.5540, while Solana rose 4.42% to $118.20, both multiples of Bitcoin's 1.58%. Ethereum added 2.35% to $2,703.80 and BNB 1.33% to $776.44.
The index is deliberately slow, working on a 90-day lookback, which filters out brief altcoin bounces that occur inside every Bitcoin-led market. This means it requires sustained outperformance by 75% of the top 100 over a rolling 90-day window, with Bitcoin stalling while altcoins keep rising.
