Altcoin Season Index Nears 50 as Crypto Market Enters Extreme Greed
The Altcoin Season Index has been on the rise, reaching its highest level in months. This comes as many altcoins have hit their multi-month highs and the Crypto Fear and Greed Index has moved into the greed zone at 78.
The index tracks the performance of the top 100 coins relative to Bitcoin over the last 90 days and has jumped to 48, significantly higher than its levels a few weeks ago. This rally coincides with the ongoing surge in most altcoins, with NEAR Protocol's token up 50% in the last seven days and Tezos' token increasing by 48%. Arbitrum, Uniswap, Ethena, and Zcash have also seen gains of over 40%.
In contrast, Bitcoin has remained relatively stable, trading within a narrow range in recent weeks. Despite reaching $81,503 today, it remains below its month-high of $82,135. Large altcoins like Ethereum and Solana have also rebounded, with double-digit gains from their lowest levels this year.
The rising Fear and Greed Index has been attributed to a sense of greed in the market, which is often accompanied by price increases for cryptocurrencies. Investors are buying into the dip as most altcoins plunged by double digits from their highest levels this year. The rebound in Bitcoin following the surge in US debt has also contributed to the rally.
