Altcoin Spot Volume Surges to Yearly High, But Will the Momentum Last?
The cryptocurrency market has seen a surge in altcoin spot volume, reaching a yearly high of four times that of Bitcoin. This increased interest in altcoins has been triggered by Bitcoin's 40% rally in Q3, which lifted the broader crypto market and sparked renewed appetite for alternative cryptocurrencies.
However, such setups can be risky for late investors chasing the uptrend, as demand for higher-risk assets often lines up with local tops in BTC. A similar setup was seen in early and mid-2025 based on this altcoin signal, which preceded a pullback in Bitcoin.
The futures market also reflected strong interest in altcoins, with the segment accounting for 41% of market share compared to ETH and BTC, which had 25% and 35%, respectively. This level of altcoin dominance was last seen in December 2024, prior to a pullback in Bitcoin.
Notably, stablecoin exchange inflows and the status of altcoin sell-offs could provide better insights into the recent altcoin momentum readings. Unfortunately, according to CryptoQuant data, altcoin sell-offs also spiked to levels last seen in October 2025.
