Altcoin Surge Fails to Ignite Leverage and Altseason
Altcoin traders may be cautiously optimistic about the recent surge in market capitalization to $222 billion, but Glassnode data suggests that altseason isn't quite here yet.
The altcoin futures open interest relative to Bitcoin is still below a level typically considered a major risk threshold, indicating that traders have not piled into altcoin futures positions to an extent associated with overheated markets.
This means that there may still be room for altcoins to attract more speculative capital before leverage reaches historically elevated levels. Additionally, the gap from previous all-time highs is significant, with Bitcoin sitting 36% below its ATH and Ethereum approximately 47% below its own.
The altcoin season index has climbed towards the 75+ zone but failed to sustain those levels for long, suggesting that a broad altseason is yet to arrive.
