Altcoins Gain Momentum as Analyst Sees Largest Bull Run in History
Matthew Hyland, an analyst, believes that the altcoin market may be approaching a turning point. This is according to charts that have broken out of year-long downtrends, suggesting smaller cryptocurrencies are gaining ground against Bitcoin and traditional risk assets.
The altcoin gauges in question include ETH, Total 2, Total 3, and OTHERS, which track the performance of smaller tokens. These gauges had been declining for over a year but have recently formed higher highs, indicating a potential change in trend.
Hyland questioned whether this could be simply a 'bear market rally', but later clarified his view, saying that the largest altcoin bull run of all time is loading and may be much larger than the 2020-2021 cycle. He points to the OTHERS.D/SPX chart, which compares the dominance of smaller cryptocurrencies to that of the S&P 500.
The ratio has been falling for years but has recently moved into an oversold area, with a setup being compared to the overbought reading seen in 2017. This suggests that the market may be approaching a period of relative strength for smaller tokens.
