Altcoins Outperform Bitcoin as Ethereum, Solana, and Zcash Soar
Over the past three months, Bitcoin's price rose 21% as investors sought refuge from the record-breaking U.S. national debt. However, a surprising 38% of altcoins outperformed the leading cryptocurrency.
Ethereum (ETH), the second most valuable cryptocurrency, has been gaining traction due to its energy-efficient proof-of-stake consensus mechanism and growing developer ecosystem. Its native token, Ether, is driven by gas fees paid in transactions on the Ethereum blockchain.
Solana, the world's fastest PoS blockchain, has also been on the rise, with a 42% price increase over the past 90 days. Its integration of proof-of-history and PoS mechanisms has enabled high-speed transaction processing and attracted major fintech companies like Circle and Visa.
Zcash (ZEC), another Proof-of-Work token like Bitcoin, has seen its price surge 193% in the same period due to a significant portion of its circulating supply being locked up in long-term holding structures. While regulators have scrutinized Zcash's anonymous transactions, some analysts speculate that it could reach a broader range of investors via spot ETFs.
