Altcoins Roar Back to Life, But Bitcoin Dominance Still Holds Firm
The cryptocurrency market is showing signs of renewed risk appetite after smaller altcoins posted their sharpest weekly rebound in months. Ether surged nearly 29% over seven days, outpacing Bitcoin's 23% gain, while market capitalization of coins outside the top 10 rose about 23%. However, Bitcoin dominance held near 59.7%, keeping a full altcoin rotation unconfirmed.
CoinMarketCap's Altcoin Season Index stood at 37, well below its 75 threshold, indicating that while there are some positive signs, a broad altcoin rotation or sustained DeFi/DEX-led rally is not yet confirmed. Analyst Ash Crypto noted that the market capitalization of cryptocurrencies outside the top 10 jumped roughly 23% last week, highlighting a sharp improvement in risk appetite.
TradingView's OTHERS index gained about 19% over seven days on Aug. 26, while TOTAL3, which excludes Bitcoin and Ether, advanced roughly 15%. However, the OTHERS-to-BTC ratio fell about 1.9% during the week, suggesting that while altcoins are gaining traction, they still have a way to go before a broad rotation is confirmed.
