Altcoins Show Mixed Performance as Derivatives Activity Rebounds
Crypto markets are showing a mix of gains and losses, with selective altcoins rising despite broader selling pressure. AAVE led the gains with a 7% daily increase and a 20% weekly rise, supported by strong activity in its V4 platform. The protocol recently surpassed $1 billion in deposits during September and expanded its offerings to include tokenized U.S. stocks as collateral for USDC loans. Other notable gainers included PUMP, which surged 30% weekly, and SKY, which posted a 14% weekly gain.
In contrast, several tokens experienced significant declines. QNT fell 7% daily after a sharp run, while ZEC dropped 16% and WLD declined 15% over the seven-day period. RAIN also saw an 8% drop in 24 hours. The divergence in performance highlights how individual project developments can drive gains even as other assets weaken.
Derivatives activity is rebounding, with altcoin open interest recovering above $100 billion as Bitcoin stayed below its earlier peak. This suggests traders are rebuilding positions, although the direction of these positions remains unclear without additional data on funding rates and liquidations. The latest chart reading places Bitcoin near $80,000, indicating renewed interest in derivatives despite recent price corrections.
