Altcoins Steal the Show as Crypto Market Sees Divergent Performance
The crypto market has seen a notable divergence in performance over the past 24 hours, with several altcoins outpacing Bitcoin. The total market cap has climbed to $2.7 trillion, up 0.9% from yesterday's levels, but the gain is largely driven by gold futures surging above $4,500 an ounce.
Gold's rise added over $1 trillion in market capitalization, as inflation expectations mounted alongside rising oil prices. Inflation has stayed above the Fed's 2% target for 65 consecutive months, signaling that the US dollar is losing purchasing power.
Zcash has emerged as one of today's standout performers, up 6.3% in 24 hours and 8.2% over the week to trade at $851.99. XRP is close behind, up 4.8% on the day to $1.39, with a 7-day volume of $2.59 billion.
Analyst Crypto Rover noted that Bitcoin has historically underperformed in September, its weakest month, averaging -2.92%. October, by contrast, has been stronger, averaging +19.92% and posting gains in 10 of the last 13 years.
