OpenAI and Worldcoin are reportedly in talks for a partnership that would see OpenAI provide AI solutions to the cryptocurrency-based universal basic income and identity verification firm. The potential collaboration is significant, given both companies' past controversies and regulatory challenges.

Sam Altman's presence at the helm of both companies has drawn attention from regulators, with Tools for Humanity CEO Alex Blania noting that Altman's involvement exceeds what one would expect for companies of their size. Worldcoin has faced bans in Portugal, Kenya, and Spain this year, while OpenAI recently navigated an investigation threat from European Union authorities over its partnership with Microsoft.

Worldcoin has been expanding its operations in 2024, launching its own blockchain and increasing its WLD token supply by 36 million. The company plans to sell off a portion of the tokens valued at approximately $196 million over the next six months, targeting select institutions.
