Altseason Looms as Altcoin Market Cap Surges by $215 Billion
The crypto market is showing signs of recovery from its bearish slump, and some analysts are predicting an altseason. According to CryptoQuant's on-chain and technical analyst Darkfost, the altcoin market has shifted from a prolonged bearish phase into an early bullish one.
Between August 19th and 22nd, the total market cap of altcoins excluding Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum increased by $215 billion, a 24% hike in just three days. This took the market cap back above the $1 trillion level.
The 200-day moving average (DMA) metric also showed that mid and small-cap altcoins are leading the charge, with more than half of Binance-listed altcoins trading above their DMA for the first time in months. This has pushed some analysts to ask if an altseason is finally around the corner.
The shift comes after a series of statements from Donald Trump, including his support for the U.S purchasing substantial amounts of Bitcoin and his call for Congress to pass the CLARITY Act. The 14-day average correlation between Bitcoin and altcoins has also surged to 0.87, its highest level since June 2026.
