America.gov Refuses to Reveal Status of US Strategic Bitcoin Reserve
On September 29, the White House launched America.gov, a website that uses AI to help Americans access information about government services in one place. Anand Sinha, a writer for AOL.ca, decided to test the website by asking about the status of the U.S. strategic Bitcoin reserve.
The reserve is a proposal from the Trump administration to create a Bitcoin reserve at the federal level, similar to the gold reserve held at Fort Knox. Trump signed an executive order in March 2025 to build the reserve, as well as a digital asset stockpile of non-BTC cryptocurrencies.
America.gov referred Sinha to Trump's executive order and the American Reserve Modernization Act of 2026, which mandates the creation of the two crypto reserves. The website also clarified that it doesn't have access to information about the current BTC balance, custody setup, or a public Treasury certification.
Sinha asked America.gov to use onchain tools like Arkham Intelligence to determine the number of Bitcoin the U.S. government holds. However, the website refused, stating that it only relies on official U.S. government records.
