American Bitcoin Posts Second-Quarter Loss Amid Crypto Selloff
American Bitcoin reported a net loss of $57.2 million in Q2, down from a profit of $3.4 million last year as bitcoin prices fell over 11%. The company's revenue rose to $67 million from $30.3 million and its bitcoin holdings increased by 14% quarter-over-quarter to over 8,000.
Despite the decline in asset prices, American Bitcoin managed to mine a record 932 bitcoins during Q2, according to CEO Mike Ho. The company's focus on mining has allowed it to stay focused on factors within its control, despite the challenging market backdrop.
The second-quarter results highlight the tension between stronger production metrics and weaker asset prices in the digital mining sector. As investors become increasingly risk-averse amid heightened geopolitical tensions, crypto asset prices have come under pressure. This has weighed heavily on companies with direct exposure to bitcoin, even as their operating activity continues to grow.
