Americas Bank Crypto Exposure Shifts as Bitcoin Loses Ground to Ether
The Americas region saw a shift in banks' exposure to cryptocurrency assets in the second half of 2025. Despite overall prudential cryptoasset exposure remaining stable, the composition changed as Bitcoin's share fell and Ether's rose.
BTC represented 44.2% of banks' cryptoasset exposure in the Americas, down from 75.8%. In contrast, Ether (ETH) accounted for 38.5%, while Solana (SOL) represented 7.8% and XRP accounted for 5.6%. These figures cover prudential exposure separately from client-related business.
The region's banks reported a sharp increase in client-related crypto services, with a 93% rise to €6.4 billion. In contrast, Europe recorded a 25% decline to €1.9 billion in the same period.
