Amprius Stock Soars 10% on $75M Pentagon Contract
Amprius Technologies (AMPX) stock surged approximately 10% in Monday's premarket session, following the announcement of a defense award worth up to $75 million from the U.S. Department of War.
The funding will enable Amprius to transform an existing domestic electric vehicle battery production line into a facility that produces high-energy density battery cells designed for unmanned aerial systems. The plant aims for operational readiness by early 2028 and is expected to produce approximately 12 million Amprius cells per year at full capacity.
Amprius CEO Tom Stepien described the grant as establishing 'a primary source of domestic, NDAA-compliant battery production.' He highlighted the combination of Amprius technology with South Korean manufacturing expertise as a competitive advantage.
