Analysts Predict Bitcoin Rally to $100,000 Amid Whale Investments
Bitcoin (BTC) is on track to reach $100,000, according to one analyst who says he is 'long as hell.' The optimism comes as whales have added $1.22 billion worth of Bitcoin since October 1, contributing to what is being called a 'lockout rally.' John Gillen, host of the Milk Road crypto podcast, explained that this type of rally involves price moving sideways in a tight range before jumping higher, leaving buyers with limited entry points. He believes that the market has already experienced six to nine months of deep fear, pushing out casual traders and reducing the number of sellers. Even a 15% to 25% drop would not change his strategy of continuing to buy.
Gillen attributes the rally to adoption and regulation rather than a short squeeze. He pointed to recent developments that expand access to crypto, including the SEC's innovation exemption allowing companies to tokenize U.S. stocks for five years, the partnership between OKX and the New York Stock Exchange to list over 60 tokenized stocks, and the SEC's approval of the first 3x leveraged Bitcoin and Ethereum (ETH) ETFs. He does not see the current price of $85,000 as overvalued, noting that it is only slightly above Bitcoin's average price over the past year.
Widely-followed crypto analyst Ali Martinez also sees $100,000 as a potential target. He cited Glassnode data showing that 1.59 million BTC changed hands between $83,300 and $84,600, creating a support zone for buyers. Above $86,700, there is no significant cluster of coins until around $105,000. Martinez noted that large holders have added over 14,335 BTC since October 1, worth about $1.22 billion.
Despite the bullish outlook, Gillen warned of potential turbulence in October due to bond yields, geopolitical tensions, and the U.S. midterms. A 10% pullback in the S&P 500 could also impact Bitcoin, though this has not occurred yet. Martinez identified key levels for Bitcoin, with $86,700 as the breakout point and $83,300 to $84,600 as the support zone.
