Anchorage Adds Tokenized Uranium to Institutional Custody
Anchorage Digital Bank has expanded its custody support to include xU3O8, a token representing physical uranium. The token is issued on Etherlink, an Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible layer-2 network that settles on the Tezos blockchain.
This integration allows institutional investors to access tokenized uranium through segregated accounts at the first federally chartered crypto bank in the United States. xU3O8 represents ownership of physical uranium, allowing investors to gain exposure without directly handling or storing the underlying material.
Anchorage said traditional uranium transactions involve specialist intermediaries, lengthy settlement cycles, and relatively high minimum investment sizes. Tokenization changes the settlement process by putting ownership representation onchain, potentially reducing operational friction associated with traditional uranium transactions.
