Ancient Bitcoin Wallets Suddenly Spring Back to Life

A 15-year-old Bitcoin wallet has suddenly been reactivated after over a decade of inactivity. The wallet, which had roughly $1.7 million worth of BTC, had remained untouched since May 2011.

Galaxy Research tracked the movements, which occurred on September 29, and estimated an average historical basis for some of the coins at around $4 per coin. This resulted in a gain of approximately $872,000, or a staggering 2,192,671% return.

This is part of a larger trend of ancient Bitcoin wallets being reactivated after years or even decades of dormancy. Galaxy Research notes that September has seen a notable series of transfers involving coins that had remained untouched for anywhere from four to over 16 years.
