Ancient Wallet Wakes Up, Sends $32M in 12-Cent Fee

A 12-year-old Bitcoin wallet has made a significant move by sending $32 million worth of BTC in one transaction, paying just 12 cents in fees. This comes amidst the ongoing Coldcard wallet drainage crisis, where hackers have been siphoning millions of dollars from wallets using the Coldcard product.

The wallet in question had left its Bitcoin untouched since 2013 and has now transferred all 500 coins to a new location. The fee for this transaction was a mere 191 satoshis (sats), equivalent to $0.12. This low fee suggests that the owner may have been consolidating their funds rather than making a panicked sale.

The Coldcard crisis has seen hackers drain over $130 million from wallets using the product, with Galaxy Research estimating that the total could reach $130 million by the end of the week. Coinkite, the maker of Coldcard, has stated that every model is now exposed to theft due to a flaw in their software.

The movement of the 12-year-old wallet's funds may be unrelated to the Coldcard crisis, as the owner could have simply been tidying up after an extended period of inactivity. However, the timing of this move has drawn attention from Bitcoin enthusiasts and traders, who are waiting with bated breath to see if other wallets will follow suit.
