Andreessen Horowitz Launches AI School as College Alternative

Andreessen Horowitz is launching the Horowitz Andreessen Academy, a tuition-free program for high school graduates and college dropouts who want to skip traditional university and dive straight into building with artificial intelligence. The one-year fellowship ditches conventional higher education methods, offering self-directed projects called 'Pursuits' where students can pursue topics of personal interest.

The inaugural Founding Class Fellowship has applications open as of September 22, with the first cohort set to begin in Fall 2027. Each fellow receives more than $50,000 in compute credits and a $5,000 travel and research budget.

The faculty roster includes industry leaders like Sam Altman and Naval Ravikant who will teach short, intensive courses. The Academy has lined up founding partners including Google, Meta, OpenAI, Anduril, Coinbase, and NVIDIA, with more than 40 hiring partners ready to absorb graduates into the workforce.

A two-year accredited program is planned for Fall 2028, pending regulatory approval. If approved, this expanded program may introduce tuition fees comparable to elite private universities.
