Animoca Brands Pauses Reverse Merger Talks Amid Market Conditions
Animoca Brands has paused its reverse merger talks with Currenc Group due to market and business conditions. The decision was made after reviewing the expected timeline for completing the deal, which did not align with the company's short- and medium-term strategic goals. This development comes at a time when several major crypto firms have slowed their listing ambitions in 2026.
According to Animoca's statement, while the pause does not rule out a future deal with Currenc Group, the company is currently working on its financial compliance and corporate governance plans. The completion of audited financial statements for fiscal years 2023 and 2024 is an important step in meeting the requirements for a public listing.
Animoca's co-founder and executive chairman Yat Siu emphasized the importance of corporate agility, stating that 'our corporate agility must take precedence.' This decision reflects the company's focus on its operational strength and compliance milestones. The pause on the merger talks may also be attributed to market conditions, as several major crypto firms have slowed their listing ambitions in 2026.
