Anonymous Bitcoin Donor's $55M Charity Gift Now Worth $426M
Eight years have passed since an anonymous Bitcoin donor known as 'Pine' decided to give away their vast fortune through the Pineapple Fund. Between late 2017 and May 2018, Pine donated a staggering 5,104 BTC, which was converted into approximately $55 million and distributed among 60 charitable organizations.
The recipients of these donations worked on various causes, including healthcare, poverty, digital rights, and scientific research. The largest grants were worth $5 million each and went to GiveDirectly, the Open Medicine Foundation, and the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS).
At Bitcoin's current price of around $83,300, those 5,104 BTC would be worth approximately $425.2 million, nearly eight times the original $55 million.
