Anthropic Builds Political Muscle Ahead of Multitrillion-Dollar IPO
Anthropic's IPO has sent shockwaves through Silicon Valley's political landscape. The AI safety company, which filed its draft S-1 with the SEC on June 1, is building a robust political infrastructure to push for AI regulation in Washington during the 2026 midterm cycle.
The company contributed $20 million to Public First Action in February, a political advocacy group backing candidates who support AI safety frameworks. Anthropic employees have collectively donated over $880,000 across 302 individual contributions through the first quarter of this year alone, with about 39% of them giving the legal maximum contribution to campaigns.
The company's focus on regulatory outcomes is no surprise given its rapid revenue growth. As of July, Anthropic's annualized revenue run rate surpassed $65 billion, with projections pointing north of $100 billion by year-end. A Nasdaq listing could value it at up to $2 trillion.
