Anthropic Drops $10 Billion on Volta Cloud Startup
Anthropic has signed a massive $10 billion deal with Volta Infra Holdings, a cloud startup that launched from stealth just six months ago. The agreement covers a 133-megawatt data center in Norway, operated by Bitcoin miner Bitdeer and powered by Nvidia's Vera Rubin chips.
The deal is Anthropic's latest in a growing list of compute partnerships, which now spans SpaceX, AMD, Akamai, Google, Amazon, and others. But this one stands out for its unique circumstances: the company Anthropic is buying from barely exists yet.
Volta Infra Holdings was founded in January 2026 by Ricard Boada and Sofia Gumuzio, both former executives at Brookfield Asset Management's infrastructure division. The startup has already raised $300 million across seed and Series A rounds, valuing it at $2.4 billion.
The company argues that only the largest tech firms can afford the upfront cost of Nvidia's latest chips, and wants to make that hardware accessible to a broader range of AI companies by bundling capital, land, data centers, compute, and operations into a single platform.
