Aptos (APT) Drops 3-4% Amid Token Unlock and Risk-Off Market

Aptos (APT) has seen a decline of around 3-4% over the last day, primarily due to a major token unlock for core contributors and investors occurring during a broader risk-off move in the crypto market.

The unlock occurred on August 10th, as highlighted by various sources. According to an Aptos-focused account on X, one of the last two major APT unlocks was happening that day. The account also noted that core contributor and investor unlocks have been the source of key sell pressure for Aptos.

The token unlock increases the pool of liquid tokens that can be sold. Given that the unlocked tranche is for core contributors and investors, markets often assume at least some portion will be realized as liquidity, especially after prior drawdowns and when the asset is still minting more than it burns.

The move is not random intraday noise, but rather lines up in time with a well-advertised supply injection from long-term holders whose selling behavior the market already worries about. The unlock did not happen in isolation, but landed into a market that has been drifting lower on macro concerns.
