Aptos CEO Denies Shutdown Rumors Amid Ongoing Upgrades and Funding
Aptos, a blockchain project, is at the center of a viral claim that it will shut down its blockchain within six months. The claim originated from an X user who posted that Aptos would be shutting down its chain in the next six months, claiming to have predicted this four years ago.
However, when asked for evidence, the user responded with 'this is what I heard; take it with a grain of salt.' This lack of concrete evidence led to skepticism from other users, with one user joking about forking Aptos into a proof-of-work chain.
Avery Ching, co-founder and CEO of Aptos, dismissed the claim as 'stupid rumors.' A review of Aptos' public materials did not show any recent announcement stating that its blockchain or mainnet would be shut down within six months.
Aptos' public governance records show ongoing network-related proposals and upgrades, including a multi-step upgrade to the testnet framework. The company has also published updates on tokenomics and network changes, including adjustments to emissions and token burns.
Aptos has raised $350 million in funding, with a valuation of up to $4 billion. However, the current shutdown claim provides no evidence that Aptos has exhausted its funding or is preparing to wind down due to financial problems.
