Arbitrum Joins Paxos-Led Global Dollar Network for Stablecoin Growth
Arbitrum is becoming the latest addition to the Global Dollar Network, a stablecoin consortium led by Paxos. The move aims to capitalize on the growing stablecoin activity within its Ethereum layer-2 ecosystem. The stablecoin $USDG has officially launched on Arbitrum, with integrations across trading, lending, and payments platforms, including Fluid, Morpho, GMX, Maple, Li.Fi, Gauntlet, Steakhouse, LayerZero, and Kraken. Uniswap and Fhenix are set to follow.
$USDG, issued by Paxos, is backed one-for-one by dollar reserves and has over $3 billion in circulation across various networks. The Global Dollar Network boasts more than 150 partners, including major players like Robinhood, Kraken, Mastercard, and OKX. The consortium's model distributes rewards generated by $USDG reserves among partners, rather than keeping them exclusively with the issuer.
This partnership provides Arbitrum with a new revenue stream from stablecoin activity on its network. Currently, Arbitrum hosts approximately $3.8 billion in stablecoins, with Circle's USDC making up around 60% of that amount, according to DefiLlama data. The integration of $USDG allows Arbitrum and its builders to share in the growth potential of the stablecoin.
A governance proposal published Tuesday suggests that ArbitrumDAO should prioritize $USDG growth, allocate 100 million ARB tokens to its DRIP incentive program, and use treasury assets to support $USDG liquidity. The push highlights the increasing trend of stablecoin consortiums playing a significant role in the digital dollar market. Other notable consortiums include Open Standard, backed by firms like Mastercard, Visa, Stripe, Coinbase, and Shopify, and Qivalis, supported by 37 European banks.
