Arbitrum Maintains Profitable Lead Amid Token Price Slump
Arbitrum remains the most profitable Ethereum layer 2 network despite stagnant token prices. Its revenue comes from processing high transaction volumes and maintaining a large DeFi ecosystem. Arbitrum generates more absolute revenue than other optimistic rollups, but its ARB token trades at a discount because governance has not implemented a fee-sharing mechanism to distribute sequencer margin to token holders.
The Stylus upgrade on Arbitrum One and Nova changes the development economics for complex applications. It uses dual-VM architecture to execute WebAssembly instead of EVM bytecode, achieving gas savings of 10x or more for computation-heavy tasks like cryptography or memory-intensive operations. This efficiency attracts developers who prefer systems programming over Solidity.
Timeboost has become a significant revenue driver for the Arbitrum DAO. Introduced in late 2025, it allows users to bid for an express lane to avoid a default 200ms delay. Since its April launch, Timeboost has generated almost $3 million in fees, accounting for half of the total income for the Arbitrum DAO.
