Arbitrum Pauses New Stylus Deployments Amid AI-Assisted Attacks
Arbitrum has temporarily paused new Stylus contract activations on Arbitrum One and Nova due to AI-assisted attacks targeting hand-crafted WASM programs. The Security Council made this decision after finding that AI tools have made it easier to create sophisticated attacks, which can degrade chain performance without stealing user funds.
The pause does not affect existing contracts, allowing users to continue interacting with them until they expire or are renewed. Developers can still renew active contracts through the permissionless keepalive process.
Arbitrum raised the gas required for activating new Stylus contracts to a level that makes it impractical to deploy new ones, effectively blocking new deployments without completely disabling the feature.
