Argentina Stablecoin Adoption Hits 94% as Habit Takes Hold

Share

Argentina's peso-denominated crypto trading volume has seen an astonishing 94% of its activity flow into stablecoins, according to a new report from venture firm a16z crypto. This is the highest share recorded for any national currency tracked by analytics firm Artemis.

The dominance of stablecoins in Argentina's market is not just a result of inflation, but has become a habit for many users. Even as economic conditions have stabilized, people are choosing to hold and trade digital dollars rather than their native peso.

Stablecoin adoption in Argentina has been driven by the country's long history of currency instability, with inflation peaking at 25.5% monthly before falling to 2.1%. The report notes that stablecoin usage has held steady rather than fading with price stability.

The premium for a digital dollar over the official exchange rate has narrowed to about 4% as of late August 2026, following regulatory easing in April 2025. This suggests that looser capital controls and cooling inflation can coexist with continued cryptocurrency inflation hedge behavior among everyday users.
